I decided to do the ride for charity for a few reasons. 1: I thought it was about time I did something that would benefit others for a change. 2 : I knew if I commited to a charity I would'nt be able to back out and go back to sitting on the sofa and watching the tv again. Alot of people ask me why Alzheimers, did i know someone that was affected, the answer is mercifully, no, but when I began looking into different charities I quickly realised that Alzheimer's charities recieve very little funding which is a tragedy because Alzheimers affects 1 in 3 people over the age of 65 and is a heartbreaking and dabilitating disease which robs a person of their dignity, independance, personality and eventually their life. The disease puts a huge emotional strain on the loved ones of those affected as they try their best to care for them. All the money raised by the Alzheimer's society goes to support groups for the ill and their families and carers and also into funding a cure for this terrible disease.
