The day didn't get off to the greatest of starts, another 5 am alarm call a quick bit of breakfast and the down to the bike shed, only to find that the group who had arrived after us had put their bikes in too, all 25 of them squashed into a room no bigger than our snap cabin at work. So nearly 30 minutes later after I'd taken them all out and put them back in again, we were all ready to go. John O'Groats was still a 2 hour drive away so by the time we had got there, set the bikes up and had all the usual photos taken it was 10:30 am. The weather was fine and the only traffic that was on the road was other cyclists either starting or finishing off the adventure. Infact the only sign of life we saw at all in the first 15 mile or so was a big black bull peering steadily at us from over a wall. We plodded on and past a place called Hill O Many Stains, (which reminds me of a t-shirt somebody I know qiuite well wears) we eventually finished our first day at our b&b in Tain, which was excellent it has to be said, Carl and Amy found a campsite not far away and spotted a great place to eat in Tain.
